You know, I hate to throw cold water on this, but the program is hard to use. It does supply some features that spotlight should probably have built-in. However, it has the look and feel of a program that was not thought out at all when it was initially released and has simply had little pieces tacked on here and there. The developer needs to take this rather nice application from a technical aspect and turn it into a user-friendly program. The people out here who are raving about it are clearly people who have figured out how to use it, and that's nice, but if anyone actually wants this program to be accepted by the general Macintosh community the program clearly needs an overhaul.

Difficult to use - Houdah Software
As the developer of HoudahSpot, I would love to hear more detailed feedback on which areas of the program you found hard to use.Every effort was made for HoudahSpot to cater to novice and expert users alike. Beginners should feel very much at ease with the search form provided by default. It is reminiscent of many other file search tools and should not throw off anybody.
I sometimes hear that the concept of "preferred template" is hard to grasp. Considering the shear power of endless customization, I still judge the required effort to be adequate.
Which features do you feel have been tacked on? Granted HoudahSpot already has a long history. It however has also seen a complete rewrite with the release of version 2.0. The main purpose of the rewrite to provide a refined interface on the existing feature set as well as room to grow. I don't think the feature set has yet outgrown the current design.

Difficult to use???? - starcrown
I have had Houdah Spot on my Power Mac for about three months now. So far I have just used it for simple routine searches. Within that limitation I find the user interface cleaner and the presentation of search results vastly clearer than with Spotlight.
