The scanning capabilities are excellent, I guess, but I find the implementation to be overly complex. While I get good scans from photos and the like I find the scanning of film strips to be very difficult to implement. I purchased this software to specifically scan filmstrips. The directions for same are less than helpful. Mr. Hamricks desire to automate the process of scanning filmstrips while admirable does not seem to really work, at least in my futile attempts. Same for slides. Trying to figure the final output of what I'm scanning I find extremely difficult if not impossible. While I would like to be able to use this software I find myself going back to the easy to use TWAIN software that came with my scanner. I guess I'll keep plugging away at it until I figure it out, maybe.

@HH and others: Agreed. VueScan scans well, but the UI is ridiculously overcomplicated and ill thought out. Although not the same class of software--it's more a document processor than front-end scanning software--check out Receipt Wallet. It scans receipts and does OCR to put info into a database for, say, expense reports, and it also scans text and images into PDF and JPG, where it can be stored in a neat, cover-page library. The developer has written some famous Mac programs. Mariner software has bought him out and will be releasing the app under a new name in April or May 09. Disclosure: I'm just enthusiastic about RW. I am not paid or affiliated in any way with any software developers or companies.Evan Mitchell Stark

I've been using VueScan for five years or more and found it far superior to manufacturer's own software. Yes the advanced interface does seem complex with many possible parameters to check, especially when scanning negs and transparencies, but perseverance pays dividends and once you've got your head round it you'll get excellent results.Reply to This
