Open Office on PowerPC NOT dead -- you can help

Feedback Type: Commentary

Contributed by: AJJX Wednesday, February 11 2009 @ 01:21 AM PST

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Have Not Tried

Apparently the PowerPC one is stuck at 3.0rc4 because they have not received sufficient feedback about it for them to certify it as a release quality product. They just didn't tell anyone that was the case until someone logged it.

If you want OpenOffice for PowerPC, download whatever RC version there is, and send feedback.

OO on PPC NOT dead -- you can help - friedchikkin

I'd be most certain that Intel Mac users have NOT outnumbered PPC users yet so for them to claim no feedback for at least six months is hard to believe.

Whether or not you think that PowerPC outnumbers Intel or vice-versa is largely immaterial. There are two major personality types out there - those who stick with what is reliable and what they know, and those who look for the next big thing. The fact that there are still plenty of PowerPC machines out there, 3.5 years after the switch, the PowerPC users are less likely to be looking to switch to a completely new Office suite, regardless of what they've previously used from. Now divide that by the number of people of that personality type willing to use a pre-release.

I'm not surprised that the PowerPC (a market that cannot get bigger) users have not tested or fed back on the 3.0rc.

And regardless, you have there word from the group about why there is no full release. So even if you believe otherwise, you have right there at that URL the ammunition to get PowerPC development kick-started again. Otherwise they're contradicting themselves. That is what they stated, and you can hold them to it.

I'm running PPC version 3.0 patch 2 just fine (G5, system 10.4.11).
but now I'm worried about this newest version 3.1 not appearing for PPC.

Bleeding edge OOo dev versions & rc's here - tommmyboy_sf

ala Nakata Maho

there's a complete archive of everything. of course it goes without saying: dev builds - use at your own risk (I've not had a problem) and certainly not in a production environment. release candidates - act accordingly.

it's coming!
