A while back I came across and old PPC Mac Mini. After getting it working on 10.4, I wondered what it might do for my network. One role it's now filling nicely is as a web proxy.

I installed squidman and in a couple of clicks squid was configured to run automatically at boot with the preferences I needed. I have a lot of machines on my home network and having squid saves a lot of bandwidth, and speeds up system updates and other large downloads. I later added webmin, and vine server and it's a near perfect headless all-around server.
