Although EMC claims in the release notes that the final version will run on PPC Macs, 8.0b1 is Intel-only. Even though I don't currently have an Intel Mac handy to try the beta on, the liner notes were worth a read. This is a significant overhaul. The server and console components have been separated. The server component runs as a daemon and the console can run on the same or a completely different Mac, leaving open the possibility that a single console could be used to control multiple servers. The server can also handle multiple tasks simultaneously, which seems like a big plus to me.
