I have scanned through the Transmission Prefs 3 times and I cannot see any preference that is doing this. So to me, this is a major bug in Transmission. I'm inclined to delete it off my hard drive because of this.

Sorry fellows, but you guys are not giving me enough evidence to prove it is NOT Transmission. And if you are right, why then does it do the same thing on every Mac I install it on? And before you say you don't have the problem, give thought to the fact that I am using a G4 where you are likely using an Intel Machine. All the Macs I've tried it on are PPC Macs. Also, if you contend it is "my system" instead of Transmission, why then is it only Transmission that "sticks" in the Login item list? For I do not have a problem at all deleting anything else off permanently! So you see, even if you gentlemen are somehow right about it being something OTHER than Transmission at work, the fact remains that it affects Transmission and nothing else. I would view that as a bug in Transmission insofar as something external could keep Transmission locked into my Login items list.

it's not a bug, it's jason. fact is that an application that doesn't come with an installer that needs to be authenticated, can't simply put a login item into the startup folder. since transmission is a drag and drop application, jason does clearly not know what he is talking about.Monday, January 12 2009 @ 02:13 AM PST

I could also say that anyone who willingly names themselves "freakomat" is someone who likely doesn't know what they are talking about.oomu, you are right. And if you read the second paragraph of my review posting, you will see that I tried to find an AutoLogin setting somewhere in Transmission but could not locate it.
The rest of you commenting here are still adding nothing to the conversation. You are just saying "I don't have the problem so I don't see why you would." That is unhelpful and does not in any way prove that I am not having a problem resulting from an issue in Transmission. For as I just said in my comment above, only Transmission does this. If you content it is my system, why then does only Transmission do this? None of you are explaining that, hence you are unhelpful at best, bashing me at worst.
It is not my intent to bash great software, unlike most off-the-wall posters here in VersionTracker. A review of all my other postings on this site will show that. Hence, it is my interest in seeing this problem resolved. And perhaps the addition of a login feature in the Transmission Preferences would do just that. I hope so, because I don't know what else to suggest.

Transmission can't possibly be the cause, something else is going on.Monday, January 12 2009 @ 07:07 AM PST

This is not a problem with transmission, its a problem with your OS. Transmission has no start up option. Very misleading and unconstructive feedbackMonday, January 12 2009 @ 03:24 PM PST

My OS, eh? Then why does the same problem occur on a complete different Mac with a completely different install of OS X?I would like to add that it happened to me again just today. All I did was restart, and Transmission auto-launched at boot. I had deleted Transmission from my Account login startup items list prior to rebooting. And again, NOTHING ELSE on my system does this auto-launching at boot time by itself.
So how dare the last commenter here say my feedback is not valid!
If it is my OS, it should cause something ELSE to also auto launch. But only Transmission does. This may indicate something is wrong on my system. Sure. And perhaps you can even say that something is wrong on the other Mac I tested. Sure. But why then is it ONLY Transmission? None of you have answered this.
Those of you bashing me are not being helpful at all at suggesting anything that could be causing it. You are bashing me for the sake of making YOU feel better, perhaps because you think I am bashing Transmission. But only an uneducated person would think that, since by reading my opening comment I did not say I hated Transmission. So to repeat...
I like this software and almost everything about it. The sole exception, which is unfortunately a BIG exception, is that, for whatever reason, it always launches on boot up and I cannot for the life of me find a way to stop it.
So please stop bashing me and my feedback. Stop bashing my discussion on this problem because you yourself have never seen it. And start offering something constructive. I almost always do 5 star reviews of software here on Versiontracker, for crying out loud. And I want to praise Transmission with 5 stars if I can. And I certainly will do that once a solution to this problem has been intelligently and calmly presented to me, which so far has not been done.
Thank you.

I have Transmission installed on several Macs and Transmission does not auto start on them. Is it really that difficult to close that app on a restart after it starts? It takes me about half a second to close it when I want to.Sunday, January 18 2009 @ 02:25 PM PST

There is unfortunately no end in sight for the unhelpful comments to my review, which apparently are being made by uneducated people or people who speak English as a second language (and therefore have a difficult time digesting all I have written above).Today, after trying everything in vain to keep Transmission from popup up automatically after every restart, I decided to trash the Transmission app, empty trash, and see what happened. When I restarted, there were no error dialogs at all -- Transmission simply did not automatically start (of course). I then checked the Login Items and found it was not there.
So I am not sure what caused this problem, and perhaps I will install a future update of Transmission in the future to see if it behaves itself, but for now the problem is solved by having deleted Transmission.
I will once again close this commentary with this. Just because some of you out there have never experienced this problem, doesn't mean that no one should ever experience it. I did experience it. And there was no third party app or other utility causing it. I don't know the root cause. Hopefully the developer of Transmission can nail it down and fix it, for the benefit of all Transmission lovers out there (including myself).

"I will install a future update of Transmission in the future" - redundancy much? well, glad to see that your english is top notch. oh, and sorry about my nickname - if i had known it would bother you that much, i'd have chosen a name that rhymes with "jason", but luckily, that's none of your business at all.
"jason", i have given you an explanation why transmission cannot install itself into the startup folder - again: an application that doesn't come with an installer that requires authentication cannot install itself into your startup folder, therefore cannot auto-start. transmission doesn't come with that kind of installer. full stop. otherwise the mac platform would be swamped with malware. now stop being a drama queen.

This is a problem with something else on your system, not Transmission. Transmission has no way to do this.Reply to This
