Hey, don't laugh. This isn't just another decrepit one-trick pony. No sir! Actually I own a license to an older version. Stopped using it long ago because Spotlight does everything LaunchBar will do, and just as fast.

The main difference is that Spotlight costs...

...oh, yeah...Spotlight is FREE!

Wow indeed. Spotlight can do everything that LaunchBar can? Have you tried moving a file with Spotlight? Selecting text and sending it to the services menu? Creating and renaming folders? Selecting an application with which to open a file? Sending an email to an Address Book contact with a few keystrokes? I could go on for some time. Spotlight doesn't even scratch the surface of what LaunchBar can do, especially with the new enhancements of version 5. It's cool if you don't like this app, but you should probably take the time to try to understand what it does before you slam it like that. If the ONLY thing you use LaunchBar for is to open applications, then Spotlight is an acceptable alternative; otherwise, it's nowhere close.

There is, however, a free alternative that is comparable to LaunchBar, which is Quicksilver. I prefer LB personally, but QS is also a fine app if you don't want to pay (though it's in perpetual beta status). Some even prefer it LB, regardless of the price.

In conclusion, get your facts straight before making absurdly uninformed posts about applications.
