Whoah! This release is bad news! I am glad that I thought to backup my "Firefox" folder in the "Applications Support" folder before using this.
This beta 2 release completely wiped out my bookmarks so that nothing was appearing in the bookmarks folders in my bookmarks toolbar. When I clicked on the "Organize Bookmarks" option to see what was going on, all of my bookmarks were gone!
I tried this twice replacing my "Firefox" folder in the Applications Support folder, and got the very same results. The bookmarks were just zapped out of existence.
It is back to 3.0.4 for me.

Can't see why you are having so much trouble.Did you remove the old version first?
Maybe something else you have installed is causing the problem?
I have been using 3.0.7 but 3.1 is so much faster.
I just upgraded from Beta 2 and all is fine, lost no information, Cookies, Bookmarks, Passwords all fine.
Maybe you need to run DiskWarrior and MainMenu or Onyx before trying again
3.0.4 is very old and slow now.

Sounds more like you had disk corruption and/or access/permission issues. I go back and forth between 3.0.x releases and the 3.1bx and even 3.2ax releases without any bookmark problems. The last time I had a version back/forth discrepancy was how the layout of the toolbar was after reverting to FF 2.x after trying 3.x betas and it was repaired with an edit to about:configReply to This
