I've been using VNC for Mac-to-Mac and Mac-to-XP screen sharing for quite some time. The best I can say for VNC is it's free and mostly works, but over the past year, I've been experiencing a lot of connect failures 5 to 30 minutes into a session.
I've been experimenting with GoToAssist Express beta, which has great stability. Its downsides are lack of native OS X support and the monthly/yearly fee once beta is over. At the moment, GTAX supports only Window-to-Windows and Window-to-Mac support sessions, i.e., viewer on Windows, shared screen on Windows or Mac OS X. So I have to run GTAX on XP on VMware Fusion.
I just discovered TeamViewer. What a pleasure to have stable screen sharing with native OS X support. So far, I've had several problem-free Mac-to-Mac sessions. If Mac-to-Windows works as well, TeamViewer will be a winner.
