While NeoOffice was written for OS X only, along came OpenOffice, with more user control, and ease of use; yes there is a place for NeoOffice, but to learn Open Offfice is well worth the effort and time.
NeoOfice is built on the OpenOffice platform

The current version of Open Office _is_ available for PowerPC. Unfortunately, you have to dig for it a bit. Go to the Versiontracker entry for Open Office and you will see a link for the PPC download there.Tuesday, February 10 2009 @ 12:46 PM PST
Open Office IS PowerPC - AJJX
The only reason there's no official 3.0 release version of Open Office is because they have not received enough feedback of the 3.0rc4 for them to declare it ready for prime-time.If you want Open Office 3.0 for PowerPC, get the 3.0rc4 and send them feedback.

There isn't a lot of difference in how the two work, but the difference is that NeoOffice doesn't abandon PowerPC users the way OpenOffice 3 does. It also doesn't require XWindows (X11) like OpenOffice version 2, as it uses Java for the user interface. If the OpenOffice developers would consider completing OpenOffice 3 for PowerPC, it might be worth considering. Of course, there are those who are using version 3 who certainly appreciate the crashes.
NeoOffice may not be perfect but it works quite well and it's a better substitute for MS Office than anything else at the moment.
