Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Over One Year

Recommend Product: YES

After several years of successfully using Parallels, I am dismayed at all the issues with the 4.0 release. I have yet to have the program run more than up to a dialog complaining that it misinstalled itself. Version 3.0 works fine. I am running on a MacBook Pro with plenty of memory and disk space. It appears to be a 50/50 mix of success/failure. Suggest you wait for a newer build before trying this.

Upgrade to 4.0 still buggy at 3540 - phrehdd

My main desire for this program was to get beyond the single processor restriction.

My woes -
1) They happily took my money on the net but to get the download took several attempts with a note that the server was unavailable and try in 2-5 minutes. This went on for a few hours. Finally the download.

2) P4 requires a change of the virtual machines. If you don't have a backup you cannot go back (fortunately I do have a back up). There should be stronger cautions or - they should make a NEW copy of the VM and leave the P3 version safe and if need be, archived.

3) On my alum iMac 2.0, I set the cpu to 2 processors - net result was not just freezing of the vm with certain apps but as well OSX forcing a cold reboot. - truly ugly.

Ultimately, I did leave P4 on my machine and set it to 1 processor and can live with the slower start ups and shut downs.

I also use Fusion on a Mac Pro Quad. The two reasons are ability to use "2" cpu and it recognized my blu ray internal player on sata. (The latter I installed myself). P3 could not do either. P3 had the advantage of OpenGL which I needed for 2 applications where Fusion does not. (or if it does, it's not seen by the applciations).

If Fusion gets around to OpenGL and not just moving forward with DirectX, I'll dump Parallels immediately. It is a pity that this paid for upgrade is dismal. One of the few things I did like about Mac over Windows was that we were less of a "paid beta tester" for applications and the OS than on Windows. P4 to me, behaves miserably and I guess that goes with running Windows.
