Sorry, in advance, for the long post. When running the firmware updater, the upper third of the display changed color to a brown hue, and everything was blocked. I let it be for at least 20 minutes, no change. Tried to hard restart, no results. Finally I had to turn off the computer by holding down the power switch. Rebooted, got the firmware updater window indicating that the firmware had already been updated, clicked OK, the window went away. Restarted the computer (from the Apple menu), it booted up without further warnings or announcements. Checked the Software Update log, that indicated that the firmware had been applied.
To tell the truth, I didn't have any problems with the trackpad before the update, and it still works fine.
I applied the updater because it was automatically selected when running Software Update.
