I have been running 3 for well over a year.I run XP on NTFS on a Bootcamp partition.

Running fairly OK other than really really slow shutdowns at times and other random slowness. But largely stable. So I try to upgrade to v4.

First attempt hangs and hoses the vm file so I try again. Success!

Er no. Having shutdown the VM and quit parallels to make sure the set-up has stuck (been caught with this before)... I could not restart the VM - it does not see the bootcamp disk.

OK contact support.

So far the belated answers have been "activate XP", "install something on the partition"...

Hmm, the partition running XP works perfectly fine under bootcamp and did under 3, perhaps there is a reading comprehension issue at the outsourced support team?

Just as well I have access at work to a terminal services environment so I can keep working!

BTW has anyone successfully downgraded back to 3?

Answer to self - yes you can downgrade - anothersphere

Launch the v4 DMG
Run uninstaller
Restart the mac (belts and braces time)
Install v3 from DMG
Launch v3 - hey my old config is still seen - wahoo
Launch the machine
Try to install tools from menu, does not seem to get anywhere.
Restart XP
Try to install tools again - the tools installer launches, run completes
Restart XP
Test networking etc - all seems fine!
Now to wait for v4 to be sorted out!

...downgrade worked perfectly - anothersphere

After a day running with a downgrade to v3 after a failed v4 upgrade, I can say it is safe to downgrade following the steps outlined above.
