VMware Fusion has major problems

Feedback Type:  Commentary

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: 1-6 months

Recommend Product: NO

VMware Fusion's tech support could not get version 2.0 to install correctly on a brand new iMac running 10.5.5 with 3.06 GHz Intel Core Duo and 4 GB memory. Every time the Boot Camp partition is started, Windows prompts for "PCI-to-PCI bridge driver" 30 go 35 times. After spending two days and following numerous convoluted and incoherent instructions, with no success, I finally received the following message from VMware: "Based on your Support Request, we tested your problem description in our lab. After detailed analysis, we believe we have identified a 'bug' with the software.

The problem has been sent to our product engineering team and they will be working on a fix for the future. Until this bug is fixed, the status of your Support Request will be marked as "Pending/Problem Report". We will follow up with you when a fix is available in an upcoming production release. We will also contact you if we post an experimental build that will help resolve your problem.

Save your money. Use Parallels Desktop.

VMware Fusion has major problems - skyo63

You may try to read through this page (see "Known issues" section for workarounds):

http://www.vmware.com/support/fusion2/doc/releasenotes_fusion_201.html#resolvedissues

Also, an update to 2.0.1 may be worth trying.

VMware Fusion has major problems - Dogue

Thanks very much for the tip. The workaround provided actually worked. If only the VMware tech folks had provided it when I initially contacted them - I would have not have wasted many hours trying the workarounds they did send.

Indeed. Clearly everyone else uses the same configuration and has this same problem.

Seriously though, while it was good of you to post the first two detailed paragraphs, you lost it with the final line. Sorry.
