OK, I admit it: I'm an AAPL stockholder. So my interest in this little goodie is personal. :)
I was quite disappointed when the older version broke -- I even tried tinkering with the data source in the "visible" code segments, to no avail. Thus, when I saw AAPL StockDock appear in the listing once again, I did a double-take and immediately downloaded it.
Everything works fine except I can't seem to get the preference for the data to remain in the dock icon upon quit. I have the icon anchored to the dock (and typically use cron jobs to start and stop the application, since there is no point in running it when the market is closed). Right now, when the app quits, it reverts to its plain 'badge.' I'm going to try trashing the preference file and trying again. We'll see.
Even if it's a bug and not something I'm doing, I love this little one-shot wonder! Yes, it's a bit goofy, and yes it's not a necessity, but I go a long way back with Macs ("Talking Moose," anyone?) and little goodies like this go a long way toward enhancing the user experience!
