No more shelf in the sidebar - have to use one of those ugly drawers if you like a shelf.
This new sidebar thing looks and functions just like Apple's Finder and that is lame on so many levels for something aspiring to be a Finder replacement. I understand that people wanted the network stuff but this was not the way to get there.
The crash reporter (which I never once saw in the last year of using the previous version) doesn't actually send the report and instead always prompts me to copy and paste the message into a new message to them and I'm just too busy to be composing and sending error messages to these guys 5-10 times a day.
I believe the previous version had a feedback link in the menu. Not sure because everything was so cool that I couldn't think of anything to improve upon. I have so much feedback and now there isn't any feedback link. Figures.
None of the new "features" are that great and too much functionality was lost. I'm going back to 4.8.5 which is fricking AWESOME BTW. Changed my life for the better. I hope someday version 5 can be all that Path Finder is capable of being.

huge disappointment - Mark S. Smith
Since I do not use the Shelf very often, I do not really miss it. And I find the Duel Browser function very useful. However, I agree that it would be nice if we could customize the view so that Path Finder does not look like the Finder. It would be much better, if we could have a "look" that was clearly different, if we so choose. How about some "skins" Cocoatech?Wednesday, November 05 2008 @ 04:27 PM PST

One of the reasons i love the shelf so much is that I can take a network server and drag it to the shelf for easy opening later. You can do that in the sidebar too but it will disappear from the sidebar after you disconnect. I need fast access to my servers and that method has worked best for me. (It's even worse In the Finder where you have to drag a sub folder over to the sidebar and you can't even use the root shared folder.)Thursday, November 06 2008 @ 10:01 AM PST

That's my biggest complaint as well. I could even accept the new sidebar if (1) you could customize what's there and (2) you could adjust the size of the icons and fonts. I see no reason they can't do this. It seems like they took the biggest flaw from Apple's Finder and tried to turn it into an upgrade feature. Strange.Reply to This
