I have updated. But I now have a nasty problem. I have a lot of colleagues in French- and Spanish-speaking offices so I use the acute accent on the letter 'e' ... as in é (type Option e then e again). As you can see it works fine here in Firefox (as it does on other apps). Except Word 11.5.2!! As soon as I type Option e, word freezes. Peculiar thing is that it does not come up as "not responding" in the Force Quit box. But Force Quit works. This is really annoying ... I automatically type accented letters and now lose work with forced quits.

Hi gmartin5! I replied to you last December to say I have the same problem, and posted a new comment today saying I still have the problem with version 11.5.5. Have you found a solution? I've tried everything, emptying caches, deleting preference files, nothing works, and it's a royal pain. What's curious is that I will go months with no problem using the option key/letter combo to make accented characters, and then there'll be a bad patch for several days or weeks. Anyone? I have OS X version 10.5.4 with Office 2004 11.5.3, and have exactly the same problem. Same problem with version 11.5.2, that I was using this summer: I type in French, so am hitting option-e-e constantly. 99% of the time no problem; then I hit what I call "the Bermuda Triangle": I type the key combination, Word freezes, can't Save, can't Quit, can't get back into Word if I click on the Finder or another application. I have to Force Quit Word, and lose whatever I've typed most recently. Annoying? Very.Reply to This
