Use Transmission

Feedback Type:  Commentary

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: 1-6 months

Recommend Product: NO

The new interface is highly irritating and filled with superfluous nonsense. As far as I can tell, it’s intended to be a combination of a social networking application and a “legitimate” torrent site like bittorrent.com. Fortunately, with the classic interface enabled, Vuze can still be just a torrent client, which it does a fine job of. Having said that, Transmission is far better—it has fewer advanced settings, but is faster, lighter, more stable, and is written in native OS X Cocoa (not in Java like Vuze).

Use Transmission - kazura.mac

The problem with Transmission is that it's "likely" a front for RIAA/MPAA ...

Uh, you're full of crap. Please provide a reference for your claim. Particularly given Transmission's code is open, so you should be able to find proof. We'll wait here.

I use Azureus, mostly grudgingly. I don't really want to use Vuze because I have no need for the new features, and it doesn't import your old config. I've finally tweaked Azureus to work the way I want, and I have no intention of redoing the whole thing all over again.

I prefer Transmission's UI, and it doesn't chew up every system resource. But it's unreliable, and instead chews up bandwidth. eg: downloading a 350MB file results in Transmission reporting session transfer of 700 or more MB, which is not only reflected in the UI, but also in the quota usage recorded by the ISP. No thank you.

Azureus sucks to use, while Transmission sucks data. So, I've got an old iMac lying around, and I've dedicated it to running Azureus and nothing else.

I wish it was possible to have it all, but it's (currently) not.

It's not a front for anyone. Anyone who wants to verify the code's security is free to look through it at http://trac.transmissionbt.com/browser/trunk/.
