While Plaxo probably had a decent user base, I won't entrust my personal information, contacts or privacy to this company now. They've been bought by ComCast...no way.

..and of course you yourself could be one of those people trying to influence the perception of potential customers. i had plaxo installed at one point and found it to be quite an invasive piece of work that quickly got removed.despite your scolding of the previous poster, i think it's important to know what the downfalls of software can be. knowing who is behind it is part of that.
comcast is not exactly known for their benevolence and it is up to individuals to make informed decisions before they put their personal data in the hands of corporations.

Dotto......I just received an invitation to join Plaxo, from a comcast using friend, who apparently had no idea this was happening. I’m bracing myself for this form of spamming to come form others who are techy-unaware/naive....sigh...Thursday, October 23 2008 @ 09:31 AM PDT

@bakutofinoAs a Plaxo employee and engineer on the project, my motivation is completely out in the open and honest. Of course I am interested in people using Plaxo (and Plaxo for Mac) - my scolding (as you termed it) is for individuals who levy vague and unsubstantiated claims that Plaxo/Comcast and our service/software is somehow up to some nefarious purpose.
You purport that you had the software installed at one point and found it invasive. I'd really like to hear how you found it invasive - we provide a myriad of controls and options so that you can customize not only your online experience with Plaxo but also what gets installed on your Mac and what pieces of our software you would like to use.
I agree that people should post their findings if a piece of software does not live up to its claimed purpose or actually turns out to be verifiably harmful, but these vague accusations of problems are nothing more than straw man attacks on our company and service.
I'd be happy to discuss any problems you find with the Mac software. I'm easily reachable in the Plaxo for Mac forum at:

I'm not sure why you view an invitation to connect with your friend on Plaxo as somehow done by accident or by a tech unaware person. Do you have any idea what services we offer on Plaxo? Your friend may just be interested to share photos, messages, interesting links with you via our Pulse feature, or they might just really like our smart address book feature that helps keep your Address Book up-to-date automatically. I don't know, maybe they just value you as a friend.
"Sigh" is right.

Well, if someone is unaware that “they” have sent you an email notifying you that you have been added as a friend (and requesting you to accept this action) and clicking the hyperlink gets to a page to become a member..(after adding your contact info to their Plaxo account I assume), then either they are pretty dense or something sneaky is going on. Or both.Clearly seems like spamming tactic to me!

@Claudia RNI would ask you to see for yourself that all of our avenues for inviting and connecting with contacts on Plaxo are plain in their intent, but I doubt you would accept the offer.
We do not attempt to trick people into sending invitations to everyone in their address book. We do have a dedicated portion of our web site that does help in making connections since one is able to more fully utilize Plaxo when more of the people they have real relationships with are on board. And again, the intent is clear in our presentation of these tools.
Not knowing the particulars of your friend's experience makes it fairly impossible for me to address your comments directly - so I'm sorry about that.

OK, so the lesson to everyone is: don't say anything bad about Plaxo or grumpy Drew will get mad at you and belittle your statements.I for one have been interested in Plaxo for a while, and keeping tabs on the progress of the product, especially in light of the possibility of losing MobeilMe in favor of a better and less costly solution. Things have looked OK so far, although the Comcast connection is not encouraging.
Drew, you may not be aware of this, but a lot of people have had very bad experiences with Comcast as a cable provider and/or ISP. Comcast has a legacy of failed promises, neglect, and arrogance. Even their current ads about having more HD and better picture quality than satellite are outright lies. And in general, people have a right to be suspicious about sharing their information, especially with massively impersonal companies with a record of extreme disinterest in their customers' satisfaction.
The fact that Drew, as a Plaxo employee, tears his way through this review forum berating posters for saying things he doesn't like leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth. I'm not dumb enough to think that one guy represents an entire software product or company, but I do know how a corporate culture can be expressed by each of its team members.
We, as public at large, have a wider license to berate people when they don't say things we like because we're not trying to sell anything ;)
Cool your jets, Drew. Lighten up. And if some people say stupid things with no foundation, be the cool supportive guy, not the insecure snitty guy.

Nice. Name calling from the one who says I belittle and berate. I'm glad to see you've taken the high road.It is too bad this thread seems to be more about my responses to people's comments than to the what is intended - actual comments and feedback about software. If someone is interested to talk about their general feelings about a particular company, there are plenty of other forums where that is appropriate. This is not a forum for spreading FUD.

OK, Mr. Defensive, I tried to display a tone of humor by referring to my own hypocrisy when I basically said that we as users could berate reviewers while you as the seller couldn't really do the same, but I guess that went over your head. This is a forum for talking about a product AND the company that produces it, because the latter is integrally important to the qualities of the former.
It's pretty funny how upset you've gotten over all this. Yes, there are a lot of worthless comments in this forum and others. Welcome to the internet. There are great ways to enlighten potential customers about the benefits of your product if you feel they may not be hearing the whole story. You, on the other hand, have chosen a different path which will not be as productive towards your cause.

As a member of Plaxo.com for almost 2 years now. I have had no problems with spam from Plaxo members. I have to agree with the person is an employee that Plaxo is safe and friendly to use.Sunday, December 21 2008 @ 07:59 AM PST

It's your choice, of course. I am interested to know what your motivation for leaving this comment on the Plaxo for Mac sync client software info page is, since your comment speaks nothing to the product's capability and only your personal mistrust (for some reason) of Comcast.Perhaps you have been influenced by some competitors who troll these type of sites spreading mistrust, fear, etc. but I will relay that Comcast.net, is one of the top ten most visited sites in the world, and is the portal to Comcast customer's email accounts, which Comcast provides its customers. Millions of users entrust their information to Comcast (before and after having acquired Plaxo) just as millions of people have entrusted Plaxo with their data (both before and after having been acquired by Comcast).
Plaxo for Mac, what this page is supposed to be about, is continuing to evolve and improve to better server our member's desire to keep their contacts and calendar data synch'ed on any of their Mac's where they have installed this software.
