Apple document http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3174 says:
"Products Affected: MacBook (13-inch, Aluminum, Late 2008), MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008)"
Yet, a run of Software Update on my C2D 24" iMac also indicates this updater is required.
A version check does indeed show the "older" versions on my iMac, but were I install this update, would there be a benefit? Or worse, might this be a detriment?

Confused re Requirements - Sorin Paliga
I do not think there is any detriment, it may just be useless, just like Target Mode for the new, firewire-less MacBooks.Silence reigns over the kingdom of Denmark these days of firewire-less macs.
Indeed, Software Update also detects it as useful for my iMac, so am going to install it, even if, presumably, useless as long as I do not have any MBA yet. Nor do I have a firewire-less new MB.
