Your own notes are NOT locally available on your iPhone or iPod Touch. You can have a ton of notes on your computer or out there in the 'cloud' (which I'm personally uncomfortable with) but you can't, repeat - can't, get at them if your iPhone or iPod Touch is off-line. It's like not even being able to look up someone's address unless you were connected!
