Can someone confirm this:
In order to get iPhone 2.1, I need iTunes 8. iTunes 8 requires QuickTime 7.5.5. Since I'm in the middle of a Final Cut Pro project and (as always) the QuickTime update is a nightmare, I refuse to update to QuickTime 7.5.5, thus I cannot get the iPhone 2.1 update.
Correct?

At least for me it didn't require the QT update to update the phone but YMMV.Friday, September 12 2008 @ 07:07 PM PDT

That's correct, iTunes 8 installed fine without QuickTime 7.5.5.If you then try to play a movie or TV show purchased from the iTunes Store, it warns: "iTunes requires QuickTime 7.5.5 or later to play videos purchased or rented from the iTunes Store, or to use music purchased from the iTunes Store in other applications (such as iPhoto or iMovie)."
None of the above apply to me, so I was able to dismiss it and install the iPhone OS 2.1 without trouble.

I WANTED to improve the performance of my cell phone, I CHOSE not to destabilise my video editing platform.I was trying to ascertain whether one was possible without the other. As it happens, it is.
Thanks for your valuable contribution anyway.

I load a copy of the OS on a second drive. From there, you can ad updates and such to see how they behave before upgdating the main drive. QT updates though I would avoid if possible since they force you to pay for the pro license again.Saturday, September 13 2008 @ 07:10 PM PDT

A major QuickTime upgrade requires you to pay for the new version of QuickTime Pro if you want it, but minor updates like these don't.Saturday, September 13 2008 @ 11:51 PM PDT

Either you install it, or your iPhone doesn't work.Thursday, October 02 2008 @ 05:33 PM PDT

Quicktime 7.5.5 is only required to view HD content, iTunes 8 will function with out it but warn you of this.Reply to This
