New limitation on number of computers?

Feedback Type:  Commentary

Contributed by: younkint Wednesday, September 10 2008 @ 08:04 PM PDT

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Over One Year

After years and years of being a paying VersionTracker user, today I suddenly start getting an error message claiming that I have exceeded my number of licensed computers on which VT is installed. The amount of computers has always been limited to ten. I have eight, although some "computers" are actually just another operating system installed on the same machine. In any event, I just checked the sales blurb for VT Pro, and find that the number of allowed computers has now been slashed to only THREE!!!! In one move, VT has effectively raised the price of VT Pro by over 66%. Further, the sales blurb states "...three Macs." Does that mean I now have to purchase VT Pro separately for any Windows machines?

Is this a retroactive change?

When did this change occur?

Why, after months and months since renewal, has VT just now started cutting the number of installed instances of VT?

I don't believe I like this at all.

I have the same problem - surely this is illegal? I bought a ten user license and before it has expired, they have cut it to a three user license? Will somebody from VT explain what is going on..........

Absolutely agree. I have the same problem. And even if I open multiple accounts, do I need to use different email addresses for each? Yuk Yuk Yuk. Have been trying to reach support on this subject, but the cone of silence is active.

Sorry to be so tardy to respond here, but we had a slight problem with a hurricane tearing our city to pieces...

Okay, a week ago I *did* contact VT support. I have received no reply to that contact. I'm still waiting. VT still does not work, claiming that I have exceeded my license, which I have not done. I paid for ten machines.

VT support has been pretty decent in the past, so I am surprised that I've not received even acknowledgment of my original support contact. I sure hope this isn't a reflection of new management.

This seemed to happen with no warning. I have ten computers on my VT license and will not renew when my license renews in 90 days. Three is not a enough for my family and our computers. The value proposition is gone!!

I ran into the same problem "back then". VT did something to where my computers were supported for a while but my renewal now is up for renewal and only for three computers so I'm not renewing my subscription.

It was great while it lasted.
