Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Over One Year

I see that the Intelligent Updater web page shows that this page has been updated to September 8, 2008:
http://www.symantec.com/business/security_response/definitions/download/index.jsp
But the AntiVirus for Mac still shows September 5, 2008:
http://www.symantec.com/business/security_response/definitions/download/detail.jsp?gid=nmc
Also LiveUpdate doesn't show any updates since September 5, 2008.

I noticed Symantec has recently release bad definitions and now incorrect date information on their website. Symantec has and is loosing touch with their original core values and it is scaring me with the release of bad virus definitions and incorrect website information.

LiveUpdate run every time when I select "Update Everything Now" - tsanchai

Starting from September 20, 2008, When I run LivUpdate, it upate successfully, but when I rerun it again, NAV keep updating itself. Each update downlaod moe than 50MB files. I think something must go wrong with this release of virus defnition.

When I used Windows, I have to run away from Norton products because of bugs and problems. Now I come to Mac and try NAV. Again it is a CRAP!!!!

LiveUpdate run every time when I select "Update Everything Now" - michael_romo

hi--

Mike Romo from Symantec here.

We're looking into this and trying to reproduce the issue. If you are having problems running LiveUpdate, please post about it here or email me at mike_romo@symantec.com. We're not getting calls about this or anything so we're trying to see what is going with individual machines. We'll let you know what we find.

thanks,
mike

you can download the installers here:

Servers updated - michael_romo

hi guys--

Mike Romo here again. So, the LiveUpdate servers have been checked and things should be working again. Here's the deal--when we post our signature files, they are sent to Akamai servers all around the world.

Sometimes replication of the definitions introduces errors in content. LiveUpdate is unable to do anything about it except notify, and because of the digital signing technology within our products we are able to recognize altered content, and LiveUpdate can report the error. The content has to be reposted on the servers from a trusted site. Once the reposted content propagates to users, they should be able to LiveUpdate their definitions without errors.

We have reset the definitions a clean install and everything looks like its running smoothly. The servers that replicate our content which experienced large spikes in downloads today which possibly caused them not to get updated with our current definitions. We’re re-pushing all of the data out now to correct the issue. Should be fixed by the time I've done typing this message (3:37PM PST).

Anyway, I know this is an aggravation and I apologize for the irritation this might have caused you. We strive to offer the best service possible and sometimes we have technical issues.

But thanks for your patience, let me know if you have any questions.

have a good weekend
