Amazing.
After reading a few more or less positive reviews here and there, I thought I'd give em the benefit of the doubt and see for myself just how much improvement is built into the latest upgrade.
So, $300 bucks later, which is big money for yet another upgrade of what may now be the most expensive page layout program on the planet — lo and behold — you still can't drag and drop text blocks around inside text windows! This basic text composition feature is built into most simple OS X text editors today, and is even included in Apple Mail. But not here. Not Quark. Sure, you can drag text and images into a document from the desktop or outside of of the program. Big deal. That and other "new" features really should have been included in this program a long time ago. But you still can't drag and drop text around inside the document itself — uh — hello?
Hey. Who are these people giving glowing reviews to this expensive, disappointing software? Do they have some undisclosed relationship with Quark? Do they receive remuneration for reviewing this upgrade? Can't help but wonder. I mean, I'm sorry to cast aspersions, but after paying for, then downloading and installing version 8, and trying it out for a while, those positive reviews seem just a bit suspicious to me now.
Insert sound here of an idiot who blew $300 on yet another lackluster QXP upgrade banging his head on his desk in shame and disbelief.
Sigh.

uhm, drag and drop text has been in since version 7. Prefs>input>drag and drop text. It would be nice if people actually looked at prefs and such before posting an inaccurate and angry review.Wednesday, September 10 2008 @ 04:40 PM PDT

It is too bad that you bashed Quark so bad because you didn't find the preference to use "drag and drop" text. It is in Preferences: Application: Input Settings.Mike

Drag and drop - RobH2
You can drag and drop text within a text box in Quark. You just have to turn it on in the preferences (Application/input settings). I do think that QXP gets a lot of bad press for what is actually a very reliable and easy to use program. True, in the past they have produced some poor versions and had a reputation for bad customer service but they are really trying much harder these days. I have very little trouble with my existing version (7.31).Friday, October 03 2008 @ 07:13 AM PDT

There's a lot Quark can't do, but drag and drop text has been implemented, just not by default. In preferences, under "Input Settings", there's a check box for Drag and Drop Text.Reply to This
