Can't update - Donal Briard

That's because you didn't install the previous update. It's silly like that. Go to MS's website and manually dl all necessary previous updates one by one...

I'm in the same fix, with the same idiot error message, and I DO have the most recent previous update installed. But this POS installer refuses to update my Office 2008 12.1.1 to 12.1.2.

I have a Tiger volume within my Mac Pro and it installed there, but not in Leopard. I copied the folder to the Leopard hard drive and it worked.
Another strange MS effort.

Likewise. 12.1.1 is in my Applications folder, but the updater can't see it. Perhaps it needs glasses...

I have the same problem. I have Version 12.1.1 and it gives me that same message "You cannot install Office 2008 12.1.2 Update on this volume. A version of the software required to install this update was not found on this volume.". I had the same problem updating from 12.1.0 to 12.1.1 and had to reinstall Office and then apply the updates. Looks like the typical Microsoft "We don't see any problem so we're not going to fix it" update. Just because it isn't a problem with updating for everyone they ignore the problem for the other 50%!

As noted, the update worked for me, so I'm not sure why it won't work for you guys. When these issues came up a few upgrades ago, I had read all of the hassles people had and did the following. Maybe it will work for you.
1. I repaired permissions and updated prebindings. (I use YASU; there are other programs that also do this.)
2. I restarted in "Safe" mode, and then I installed the Office update.
3. I then restarted again and repaired permissions before starting up Office.

I really hope you guys can get this update to work.
