also, since it is a free app with no implicit contract, and since i'm giving it my OpenDNS password, i really think it should be open source so that i can be comfortable what it's doing with my info...
also some smaller problems:
- Preferences window gets lost behind other windows -- once another window is in front of it, can't command-tab to it, can't resurface it by selected Preferences from the menu item, must hide everything or use Expose
- About window sometimes displays behind current app, result is similar problem to Preferences window
- after manually running Check for Updates, the menu item's menus are permanently greyed out
works, but several issues - zwei--2008
You might want to recheck the memory. For some reason during the first run it takes more memory than it normally does, but under normal unattended operation it should use less than 7mb of RAM. Maybe you were looking at Virtual Memory.I no longer own the code (OpenDNS does), so it's up to them what direction they want to take this app. As for your secure information ...it's stored using blowfish encryption and is sent to the OpenDNS server via a secure https:// request. The info is only called upon during an update request.
the menu items being grayed out is a known bug. It only happens if you open the dropdown menu again while the update check is being run.
If you want Growl notifications, I suggest you look into DNS-O-Matic Updater. I still have control over that code and you can use DNS-O-Matic to update your OpenDNS account (along with many other services) ...check out dnsomatic.com ...if you have an OpenDNS acct, you automatically have a dnsomatic.com account. It uses the same login info as your OpenDNS account.
