Seems to require a translation dictionary of some sort. No idea where these are supposed to come from, or if they cost extra. There is no link in the widget itself to download or install additional dictionaries, and none are included. So overall, it is useless as it is.

Just download the dictionaries, unpack it, then copy to~/Library/Application Support/TranslateIt!/
folder. If it doesn't exist - create it.
Reload the TI's Widget by pressing CMD-R while mouse over it.
Press (i) button to configure the dictionary from the list.
Much easier to manage the dictionaries - install full TranslateIt! applications.
