Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Have Not Tried

Recommend Product: NO

That's a croc! This is a plain commercial product with a free trial period (30 days) whereafter its features will be severely curtailed (who knows, maybe you won't even be able to get at your own encrypted files anymore... how's that for arm twisting to buy, eh?).

At the very least this is 'crippleware'.

I don't trust liars.
Especially not with encryption!

Oh by the way, after the trial period expired you can still extract archives. Only the creation of archives is disabled. Furthermore, BetterZip does not use any proprietary format, so you will be able to use other programs to access your data, even on other operating systems than Mac OS X.

yes, it is. - macDigital

shareware is also known as "try before you buy". with a 30-day full trial, limited function past 30 days and a $20 price point, this definitely qualifies as shareware. you don't get unlimited use of it without having to pay. that's called "freeware". if you encrypted your archives with this and now you can't get to them because you couldn't be bothered to read the limitations of the unpaid version, it's your own fault. if you frequently work with password protected, encrypted archives this software is well worth the price.
