I like this software ... works great ... most of the time. However, it seems that when I have some particularly important recording ... a long one, perhaps ... that it will generate a file ".unf" of "0 kb". Usually, ".unf" files are the temporary files as it is recording ... but when it doesn't close out and convert to the .mov files that it is supposed to ... I'm left with these. I've turned off the screen saver, changed the energy saver to never shut down for both the screen and the hard drive ... so I'm not sure what is triggering these.
Have searched the web ... tried contacting the developer through their website a few times without any response ... hoping someone might have some suggestion here ... else I'm moving over to give KeyCamX a try.
Lost another very important movie of our research today ... just not acceptable for production stuff. However, when it works ... it works great. Have lots of great files today ... except for one ... the most important and longest one today.
Any ideas, please post here. Thanks ; )

Thanks for the software link. It recovered 4GB from each of the .unf files I was having trouble with. It's not the complete thing ... but at least I got that much. Looking forward to figuring this out.Thursday, July 17 2008 @ 09:51 PM PDT

It's very rare these days that we encounter a '.unf' file; even if a wireless device drops out temporarily. What seems to have helped us is:> using a schedule (we manually override the schedule and change cameras from active to passive, if and as required);
> using continuous capture (not motion detection); and
> creating one movie per day.
That said, we had a few .unf files yesterday. My fault entirely. I know what I did, and it's a sure-fire method for causing the problem: SecuritySpy is not at all impressed if you log in and alter a camera's settings while it is trying to access and record its images. It's best to shut SecuritySpy down while you do this. Or at least, make sure it is not trying to record.
Hope this helps,
Alison

Hi,Sorry to hear about your problems with unfinished movie files. This occurs if an error is encountered that prevents SecuritySpy from finishing off the movie files. The error will be recorded in a log file - please email this to us at support@bensoftware.com and we will take a look (you will find the error log within your SecuritySpy folder within your Documents folder).
We also have a movie fixer application that may allow you to recover damaged movie files, please try it out:

Hope this helps
