STILL can't download mpeg2enc!!!

Feedback Type:  Review

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Have Not Tried

Recommend Product: NO

I'm using PPC, so I need mpeg2enc from sourceforge, but every time I r-click to download it, or option-click to download the file, I get a blank document. This apparently has been going on for YEARS! A search on sourceforge shows that in July 2005, someone posted the following:

>>>"I cannot download the mpeg2enc for MacX from your website. I've
done it 3 times and all that gets downloaded is a blank document. I
need the mpeg2enc so I can run ffmpegX. Please help!!!"

The response was this:

>>> "Did you press the option key (labled with ALT) on the
keyboard when klicking the link ? It worked that way in Safari on OSX 10.3.x and 10.4.x"

That was it, STATUS CLOSED!

What else is nuts is that I am using a PPC, yet the ffmpeg application keeps asking me to install mpeg2enc.intel

SOMETHING IS VERY WRONG HERE AND NOBODY SEEMS TO BE ADDRESSING IT

STILL can't download mpeg2enc!!! - vitoarc

I figured out how to download it, thanks to a lead from another user in a previous post. Here's how:

When you right-click, or control-click the mpeg2enc.intel file from http://mjpeg.sourceforge.net/MacOS/ (it's way down at the bottom, 7 lines from the bottom of the page), choose the "Save Linked File As", and save the file as "mpeg2enc.intel" to the desktop (you are removing the .txt extension). Now it will work. The file must be saved this way, PRIOR to download.

Further note: The mpeg2enc.intel will work with PPC architecture, because it is a universal binary. Also, this is what the latest ffmpegX.app is looking for when trying to install binaries; it's NOT looking for "mpeg2.enc"

After wasting a few hours on this, I need a drink at this point! ; )

You need the Binaries as well - macwoman

As well as that, you also need to download the binaries.

They will download and unstuff into to a folder called ffmpegXbinaries20060307 Folder

Inside the folder are the two files that the Installer is looking for.

Read this for more help:

http://www.ffmpegx.com/download.html

Hope this helps.
