Why is everyone so unfair on Stuffit? - rrreed
Back in the "good ol' days" of MS-DOS-based, dial-up bulletin board systems and 2400bps modems, StuffIt was a required tool for moving Macintosh files across different filing systems that didn't know what to do with a resource fork in a file in addition to efficient file compression. With the decline in the use of said resource forks in files after the introduction of OS X and the presence of robust, industry-standard UNIX compression/decompression tools distributed as part of OS X itself, the time of the StuffIt file format as a tool for general file distribution has come and gone, IMHO.StuffIt Expander itself? I keep it around for the rare .SIT or .SITX file I still encounter online that no other tool will handle, after which I promptly trash the archive. I transitioned all my old .SIT archives to .ZIP several years ago for cross-platform compatibility.

Because they don't understand the purpose of SW reviews. One is supposed to review what the SW does vs what it claims to do, not whether it is useful for one's own needs. I don't downgrade Mathematica because it doesn't do what Photoshop does.Sunday, August 03 2008 @ 08:15 PM PDT

Been using it since 85 with no major issues. I tend to agree with your comment.Reply to This
