Yes, the upgrade policy sucks. I've only been using one dictionary for years, so it didn't kill me that much. Now I have two dictionaries and am worried about being shafted in years to come. I expect I'll only upgrade when 10.6 forces me to.
Having said that, Version 7 is the first version I actually LIKE using (rather than HAVING to make do with the ugly Windows-like interface). Ultralingua finally looks and behaves like a Mac application. The flashcard facility looks cool, but you have to create your own. It would be nice if there were some way for users to share them. Maybe there is, but there's no manual, so who knows?!
The pop-up translation box looks really nice now. Much more readable. I use this all the time when reading French and Spanish web pages.

Version 7 - finally not Windows-like - waldstille
Yes, it is disgusting. Even though you like it, some of the other comments here do not encourage me to spend the money upgrading. I was debating whether to or not; now it seems clear I won't.Wednesday, November 05 2008 @ 07:36 AM PST
upgrade policy atrocious - bernie90210
That's right -- you're forced to pay a per-dictionary fee for what is essentially an *interface* upgrade, since the dictionary entries change little between upgrades.Reply to This
