Like several people, when I try to start an Office App, I get the Office Assistant and am never able to continue. I would prefer not to have to reinstall everything.
I tried the update on a PPC computer and it worked just fine. Strange.

Very many thanks guidowenzl, worked a treat. Maybe you should get a job at MS. Then again, you probably know too much for them.Tuesday, May 13 2008 @ 02:38 PM PDT

try this:delete ˜/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office 2008/Microsoft Office 2008 Settings.plist
delete /Applications/Microsoft Office 2008/Office/OfficePID.plist
then start an app - put in serial number.
after that it starts the MS update again and then it should work - at least it did it for me !
Hope you all have luck too !

Just to ensure I understand, should the deleted files be removed after the update is "completed"/while in the Do Loop, or, should those two files be deleted before the install process is initiated?TIA

Ditto here. Absolute idiots, I now can't open Word, Powerpoint or Excel after this update, just keeps ending up on the Auto update window and then saying there are no updates. Once again, absolute idiots.Reply to This
