Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Recommend Product: NO

I gave this a try since Tidbits recommended it. It didn’t work for me. So I quit it and trashed it. Shortly after that I rebooted and checked my system (OS-X 10.5.1) with DiskUtility. It got caught in an endless lope of reporting the same error. I rebooted; tried to repair things with the correct version of DiskWarrior and TechTool Pro. Neither could do anything with my HD. I know port hoc, ergo propter hoc is a logical fallacy, but prior to Dialectic I had had no troubles and afterward the pain to resstoring from back up a ravaged system. So I pass this on in the hopes of helping others.

I am sorry you are having difficulties but you have not provided any evidence at all that this was related to Dialectic and to give the application a 1-star review based solely on this is puzzling. Everything you point to sounds like a disk error and I don't understand why you think this is a software issue if DiskUtility, DiskWarrior, nor TechTool Pro could not fix the problem -- and were you actually having problems after removing Dialectic? Why did you run DiskUtility in the first place? What was the repeating error DiskUtility reported?

As to the software itself, when you say Dialectic didn't work for you, what do you mean, exactly? Was there a problem with the software or did it just not meet your needs. As the developer, I do my best to answer all support requests. I have no record of a "Mark Wayne" contacting me for support. Did you contact me to resolve whatever issue you had with the software?

In the past three weeks (since the initial release), Dialectic has been downloaded over 15,000 times and I don't have a single report of it corrupting a user's machine. Again, I am terribly sorry to hear of your problems but is this really a Dialectic issue or cause for such a review?

It may be there was an existing problem with the disk structure. If so, anything that wrote any information (deleting a file actually writes information to the disk) could have had the unfortunate impact of overwriting a key piece of data on the disk.

So while it is possible the install/removal of Dialectic happened to bring the problem to light, that doesn't mean it was the cause. I can't say what did or didn't cause the problem, I just haven't had a problem with Dialectic or its predecessor, JPT.

Mark,
You must have something bad wrong with your system. I have ran both Jon's Phone Tool and Dialectic on 2 different computers with no problems at all.

Wayne,

You must have something wrong with your system. I've ran both Jon's Phone Tool & Dialectic on 2 machines, one with 10.4 and the other with 10.5 and have not had any problem at all.
