For years and years I've used Version Tracker and Version Tracker Pro to keep my software up to date. It seems that VersionTracker Pro has gotten worse and worse over the last year. I just ran VT Pro where it says I have 47 pieces of out of date software. Most of these are bogus entries. For instance VT tells me my version of BBecit is 8.7.2 and the current version is 8.7.2 and needs to be updated.
VT Pro keeps telling me my Flash Player.plugin is out of date but the Adobe Updater in CS3 says I have the latest.
and it goes on and on and on with VT Pro saying more and more programs need updates that don't.
I would like to move on to something better. Anyone have an alternative to VT Pro since VT Pro is getting close to joining the club of "software that totally sucks".

Version Tracker Pro getting worse and worse - Jefferis Peterson
I'm finding a lot more problems with VT 4.5.1 as well. I'm seeing a lot of my apps that have been updated now listed right next to the previously updated version, still showing the old version number on the "available" updates. So I'm seeing both the current version I have and the older version I used to have but do not have anymore. If I remove the old version from view, I'm concerned it will stop watching for updates on the new one. And btw, these are usually point updates, between 1.5 and 1.6. For some reason, VT is not seeing that the item has been updated, even though the item was updated by VT ITSELF!Wednesday, April 16 2008 @ 07:22 AM PDT

Version Tracker Pro getting worse and worse - corrp
I also found VTPro gave frustrating false positives, when I knew I had the latest version. At one point, I actually used TinkerTool System to uninstall VTPro and its components and then rebooted and manually re-installed it. It worked a bit better I believe. For some time now, it lists Komodo, Opera and Eclipse as needing updates. All are current. I know they are so I ignore them in the VTPro report.
I do see that Komodo lists its version in Finder GetInfo as 4.3 (i.e., no 3rd position for version.) VTPro shows I have 4.3 (agreeing with GetInfo) when I actually have 4.3.2 (latest.) That may be a variable. I see the same behavior for Eclipse. (i.e., latest is 3.3.2, which I have. GetInfo shows 3.3 for Eclipse, which VTPro shows as my current.) Once in these applications, the application's "About..." menu item shows the correct, current version.
VTPro shows Opera's latest version as "9.27 (9.2.7)", which I have. It shows my current as 9.26. I see in Finder GetInfo for Opera that the version is 9.27.3731 (an interesting version-numbering scheme.) Perhaps this style confuses VT Pro. (Note its listed current version with the parenthetical version "expansion".)
I really do like VTPro. I just began using it several months ago across three Macs. It isn't perfect but it gets me in the neighborhood of keeping all my apps up-to-date.

Right now, I'll be happy if the VersionTracker and MacFixIt sites would simply recognize that I renewed nearly a month ago! And, yes, the VT app is missing loads of my apps also. Happily, it's much faster - but what is it worth if I have to do it all manually? I have more than one machine to attend. VT has been pretty decent in the past (I have been a paying subscriber since VT started taking $$).Support was emailed, but no reply.
P.S. - I didn't get my "free" shareware app for renewing, either...
