Your experience is consistent with the fact that the download webpage for the new Apple Firmware Restoration CD 1.6 that was just released does not list the MacBook (late 2006) as an affected model - only the MacBook (late 2007) in the MacBook series. Apparently the new firmware update isn't for our “vintage” MacBooks.
