Did all the people having trouble with this update remember to uninstall the old version before installing the new one ?
Also remember to repair permissions after installation.
Safari is fine, no crashes, Flash plays fine in Safari 3.1 and Firefox 2.0.0.13
I have had NO problems with the last few updates since being advised to do the above.

UNINSTALL OLD VERSION FIRST! - Richard Knight
How does one know (a) what's alerady installed and (b) how to uninstall it...I have no "Flash Uninstaller"...a little more help would be good...it's like saying "To go to the moon just build a rocket" sounds so easy, but only if you know how ;-)knightr@coe.drexel.edu

Why? - quattleb
Why would anyone assume to do an uninstall first - nothing on their www site warns / tells us to do such...Well written software should not require removing previous versions for a small increment update.

UNINSTALL UNNECESSARY - Eric M
With all due respect, uninstalling is not called for here. At least in my own experience, what you're suggesting is overkill. Adobe *does* advise that you close all browsers before installing. And as others have noted it is wise to repair permissions after installation. After quitting Safari 3.1 and Camino 1.5.5, I ran the installer. Then I fired up Disk Utility and repaired a lot of related permissions (Adobe needs to improve in this area IMO). Restarted both browsers and have not missed a beat.

UNINSTALL UNNECESSARY - kent1
Regarding my post, I hear what you say, and sure it SHOULD be unnecessary, but then Flash is no ordinary program... Adobe Flash has come in for some of the most vitriolic criticism I have ever seen on VersionTracker. However, having followed the saga of Flash on these pages for years, it has often been found that uninstalling the old version has prevented much of the grief that has arisen after every update.
I too have had numerous problems if I didn't do that. Since adopting that plan, I have had not a single problem.
Maybe things have changed with Leopard, I am still running Tiger.
Hence my advice to people.

Thanks for the tip. I was amazed at the number of permission errors that needed correcting after the install.Have tested this update after permissions repair and it runs as sweet as a nut. Also, the flaky behaviour whereby the viewing window disappears depending on the scroll bar position seems to have been fixed.
