Just a suggestion to all of you who download things only to find out they don't install, it is probably (most certainly) because these updates are not suitable for your computer. Why don't you use Apple's "Software Update" option in the "Apple Menu" ? It knows exactly what is good for you and what is not. You would avoid useless downloads and frustration. Cheerio !

Firmware refuses to install - som1
Problems? What problems? Haven't had one since Software Update was introduced way back in MacOS 9....Wednesday, April 09 2008 @ 04:58 AM PDT

True, Software Update can be risky... but just to make sure, I run a check with Software Update first, just to see what it says. In this case, it recommended the update, but instead of proceeding in Software Update, I downloaded the stand-alone installer and applied it that way. It all went as expected, and no problems yet that I can see.Wednesday, April 09 2008 @ 06:35 AM PDT

I will certainly have a look at the Versiontracker warnings you mention but very honestly, I have never had any problem with "software update" and I do use it all the time and since it's introduction.Wednesday, April 09 2008 @ 11:37 PM PDT
Firmware refuses to install - Cynic
Software update does say I need this update, and my Boot ROM version is one of the ones eligible (according to info on net elsewhere) - but the update doesn't work. It goes through the process of downloading and installing, but never asks me to restart (which it should for firmware update??), and doesn't change the Boot ROM version. No message that I don't need the update during any of this either.Anyone else had this happen?

Did you try downloading and running the stand-alone installer instead of using Software Update? All I can say is, that's how I did it, and everything went OK.Friday, April 11 2008 @ 10:16 AM PDT

... but see all the recurring warnings in MacFixit about problems with Software Update and the desirability of using direct downloads.Reply to This
