Not actually disabling spellchecking

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Have Not Tried

So, let me get this straight... This hack doesn't actually disable the system-wide Spellchecking at all... it simply stops the visual effect of incorrect spellings from showing up?

In reality, spell checking is still as active as it was before installing, you just can't see its effects.

What benefit is there to this? If it really disabled spellchecking, then it might be useful, as you may get a slight speed increase due to the OS not doing this function, but in its current form this is purely a visual hack.

Not actually disabling spellchecking - Charlie Monroe

It indeed doesn't "disable" the spellchecking in the right sense... However, many people dislike that the OS is underlining the misspelled words by default. Some applications even force the spelling to the users (disabling it doesn't stick over relaunch or you have to disable it for every single text field). With languages that are not installed with OS X; or that use accents that many people ignore while writing on the computer, this does make it a useful utility - to some people.
