I bought X-plane 8 one month before v9 beta was published and the guy wanted the full price (79$ and not 59!) for the next version, although he promises free updates for several years on his web site. The software might be a good sim, but the update policy makes it unrecommendable.

Unfortunately, you have to hang out in the x-plane forum - there you would have known that a new version was coming. The order page says "this includes free net updates through the entire X-Plane 9.xx run! ", but again, you have to be in the know that when a new full version comes out, it's the full price for upgrades. That aside, x-plane is about as full-featured as you could hope. Plus, with the third-party add ons (scenery, planes, copilots, flight plan, etc.) it's as complete a simulator as can be.

Well, I love XPlane, its a great programm, but there is something to observe in all the update-circles with moneymaking software. If its toast, the adobe software or this one, the versions flying now by like the seasons, and we pay and pay....or we dont. I think I stick with version 8 for a while if its toast or xplane.Sunday, September 21 2008 @ 01:54 AM PDT

Completely agree! Upgrade policy is more than bad.The product is good, but can't recommend it anyway for that.
