Horrible Update

Product Platform: WinNT,Win95,Win98,WinME,WinXP,Win2k

Used Product For: Over One Year

Recommend Product: NO

I've been using the 7.x version of this product for over 2 years with no trouble - it is wonderful.

So I thought I would check out version 8.0.

What a mistake!

It trashed my Outlook to the point where I had to completely uninstall Office and re-install it. It prevented Outlook from receiving mail - nothing I did could repair it.

I also emailed the developers with no response (after 4 days).

I hope these guys don't trash a great program, because version 7.x is rock solid.

Horrible Update - selsworth1

AVG 8.xxx release sounds like typical MS 5-point new release protocol: (1)New version release = $$$ (2)release ASAP (3) thoroughly test later ('gee beta users were okay with it...') (4) upon consumer uproar, develop release version XX.1 or quick patch or major service pack or 'Hey let's call these hotfixes now!' 5)fix fixes after testing fixes upon consumer uproar...

My practice for all new releases (unless I'm absolutely paralyzed) is to wait to upgrade and sometimes even patch. Let new users lose hours in finally figuring out that it wasn't their learning curve, but a problem with the initial version - they can do the anguishing and screaming for the initial version release during its first 6+ months.

In our hectic, real-time world, it's unfortunate that there is so little sensitivity on the part of major developers to consider time lost by end-users in trouble-shooting upgrades, patches, and service packs - especially when they impact an already-stable application.
