Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Recommend Product: NO

This update seems to have fixed the Entourage notifications problem, but it did not fix the problem with events -- I still cannot open a calendar event by double-clicking it, as I could in Entourage 11.x (Office 2004). I have to click on the event and then go to File > Open Event to open an existing event in the calendar. That's annoying. And yes, I do know that I can click on the event and Command-O to open it, but that's still not as convenient as double-clicking them. Why would M$ remove a long-existing feature such as this? Or did they just goof up the code (more likely).

Otherwise, no problems with this update on my 2.16 GHz Intel iMac running OS 10.5.2.

And another thing: I cannot believe that M$ did not give us a way to remove that STUPID Elements Gallery toolbar in Word, Excel and Powerpoint that includes buttons for Document Elements, Quick Tables, Charts, SmartArt Graphics and WordArt. It is a giant waste of screen real estate, and it is probably only useful to around 5% of Office users, so it's very annoying that the other 95% of us do not have a way to remove it.

Furthermore, none of the Office 2008 apps are as fast as they should be now that they are Intel-native. Sure, they're faster than they were in Office 2004, but only perhaps 15% faster.

Also, the Help in all the Office 2008 apps STINKS. I can't wait for 12.1 (though knowing the MAC Business Unit's skills, 12.1 will probably also stink).

Overall, there is really no reason to switch to Office 2008 because it's junk -- the only exception being that you can use it to open the new M$ file formats (the only purpose of which is to generate new revenues).

So let's review: Vista = JUNK; Office 2008 = JUNK. Why is this company still relevant?

Still cannot open Entourage calendar events by clicking them, and other remarks - macmikey2

They open just fine on my MBP. Make sure you are double-clicking on the TIME and not the Description as this is the only difference I noted.

Still cannot open Entourage calendar events by clicking them, and other remarks - Jay

The problem is that when I create calendar events I usually click the "All-day event" checkbox because when I'm viewing my calendar (which I usually do in Month view) I don't like seeing the time at the beginning of each event. So, there's no time listed at the beginning of most of my events, therefore I have nothing to click on to re-open an event.

The weird thing is that I used to be able to click on the event name in Office 2004/Entourage 11.x, but I can't in Office 2008/Entourage 12. Worse yet, when I first installed Office 2008, I COULD get an event to open just by double-clicking on the event name, but then it just stopped working (kinda like the Entourage notification sounds that just stopped working).

I think M$ has just stopped trying. I wish I worked in an environment where I could use an alternative.
