Hey fellow mac users...do yourself a favor..and do what I do...use version 10.3.7 ...2005-10-07
I have been using it for over a year, it works likes the version 5 of windows aol...but you still
have access to chat email buddy lists and chat rooms...I will use this until aol for mac wakes up
and installs the features as the window version.

I agree. AOL 10.3.7 still works . . . - RoyPDX
It "works" but already is breaking in some areas: The Welcome Screen no longer updates, it frequently crashes when trying to view email with large enclosures, and the built-in web browser has always been almost worthless.Even worse news, this "new" AOL For Desktop will apparently NEVER support the classic chatrooms. They plan to migrate chat to the web via the horrid AIM (web-based) chat. I can't speak for others but for me, the only thing that made AOL superior was their proprietary chatrooms...webchat can be found on any number of services and will probably never compare with the old proprietary, client-based chat.

I'm still using 10.3.7, too. I use it mainly for e-mail and much less frequently for the browser--just for a few custom items on my toolbar. It makes me sad that AOL keeps shooting itself in the foot because it has some nice features (I especially like the fact that I can unsend and check the status of AOL-to-AOL mail). Some of the features are useless (like configuring the browser to not accept third-party cookies), but at the risk of abuse from my fellow VT subscribers, I still like it and am too much in bed with it after 10 years to switch. All they really need to do is tweak 10.3.7 for newer, i.e., Intel Macs and exterminate a few bugs, not reinvent the wheel; keeping current with the Windows releases would be nice. Why is this so hard?Friday, March 28 2008 @ 08:15 PM PDT

. . . and I've been using it since I got my Mac Pro. Actually I've been using AOL since it came out in the 1980s. ALL the same old features work, or at least the ones I need. I'm self-employed, and I've had ads all over the country with my email address in them for years. I'd lose business if I switched and, yes, I know there are ways to make the transition less painful. But, I only use AOL for email, not as a browser. Frankly, it meets MY needs completely, so have no reason to change . . . yet. If future Mac OS upgrades break it, then I'll have to switch, but for now I'm just hoping the AOL beta squad can get the program working. They probably should have started with v 10.3.7 rather than whatever their doing. Their new beta is pretty far off the mark compared to 10.3.7.Reply to This
