The .pkg installer doesn't work properly and leaves you with an unusable installation.
I am now stuck because, despite uninstalling v 1.6.0, I can't now install any earlier version (which would work) and update.
This is a SERIOUS pain in the backside.

Here's the FIX - vitoarc
There is a known issue with 1.6.0 not installing fully. I had the same issue. MP was not installing the hidden .profiles file. Check out this workaround until the next version comes out:http://trac.macports.org/ticket/14889

Sorry--This is more clear! - vitoarc
I was a bit too quick to post before. This will be easy, and clear. Make sure that you are connected to the internet. Then in Terminal, type the following""curl -Lo postflight http://tinyurl.com/2qqbth && bash postflight"
This is a script that will fix the issue with version 1.6.0 not installing totally. You MUST be connected to the internet for this to work. You'll see a message in Terminal when you are done saying that MacPorts has installed successfully.

Installing MacPorts is not a trivial task; consult <http://trac.macosforge.org/projects/macports/wiki>Reply to This
