Guys,
I think there has simply been a big misunderstanding and it all started by the unintentional posting of misleading information on the MacHeist website. They had incorrectly written that all future UPGRADES were free. This is simply not true. All UPDATES are always free. Hence, we understand why people are upset. Please rest assured that Yazsoft cares about its users more than anything and we work all day to accommodate almost every single request. SD5 is truly a massive upgrade. We have put in an immense number of hours to deliver what we think is a truly significant upgrade that all Mac OS X users will enjoy. We cannot give all this work away. As a result, we have modified our initial upgrade policy and are offering all MacHeist user discounted upgrades to SD5 should they want to use it.
Rest assured, you DO NOT have to upgrade if you're happy with SD4. SD4 remains fully supported and we are here to answer all feedback. Last we heard, MacHeist will be fixing the incorrect information posted on their website that caused all this confusion.
Thank you all for your continued support. If it wasn't for the support of the Mac community, we wouldn't be here and to us, that's priceless. Thanks again for listening.

Take some responsibility - Sidhartha
To the developer... Please take some responsibility. The reason people are naffed off is because they were led to believe they were purchasing a FULL LICENSE of SD from MacHeist... and MacHeist certainly believed that's what they were selling.
You have now changed your mind because you want to milk further monies from those who purchased via MacHeist.
I tell you what, the PR Yazsoft has got out of this whole episode is priceless. You seriously need to take a long hard look at yourselves in the mirror.

Saying that the information on MacHeist site was misleading is pathetic. There was nothing misleading about it at all. Yazsoft's behaviour during this situation has been abhorrent. Screwing legitimate customers just to make an extra few bucks is seriously bad business. As somebody on the MacHeist forums said:
If someone has a good experience, they'll tell 5 people. If they have a bad experience, they'll tell 50".
In the age of the 'net, it's possible to tell 50, or even 500 million people of your bad experience.
The choice is yours on what to do next. Considering your previous actions I'm not hopeful that you will make right decision.

Yazsoft seem to have their own confusion over what is an update and what is an upgrade. When I received a screen, on opening Version 4 of the application, telling me that an "update" was available I pressed the update button. I was then told that application "update" was being downloaded. Lo and behold the update Speed Download gave me was Version 5!Wednesday, February 13 2008 @ 12:00 AM PST

Unfortunate that you continue to lie and misrepresent the case - the issue at stake is the free update you promise those who purchase the application during a certain time - and the full license you agreed to provide to MacHeist users - and the disqualification of users from that free update after the fact. Your deception cannot be hidden and you must pay for the consequences.Wednesday, February 13 2008 @ 12:00 AM PST

"If it wasn't for the support of the Mac community, we wouldn't be here and to us, that's priceless."Too bad Yazsoft doesn't actually grasp that they are losing the majority of their customer support (past, present and future) due a very shortsighted marketing decision for SD 5, and unless there is a rethink, they likely won't be here much longer. Support from the Mac community is indeed priceless, and once lost is virtually impossible to regain. Time to acknowledge the problem and make good.

Is that so ? Then why it is unusable at all. - littletree76
"We have put in an immense number of hours to deliver what we think is a truly significant upgrade that all Mac OS X users will enjoy."After downloaded version 5 from yazsoft website, installation and successful registration in Mac OS 10.5.2, there is no way to update required system components and user's preferences. The installation was done twice with previous installation completely removed and cleaned up. No matter how many attempts and reboots, Speed Download remain unusable because there is no way to properly configure user's settings in preferences window and system components are not updated properly. I have even tried to update manually plist file where preferences are stored to no avail.
The same problem has happened for version 4 upgrade before. The developers simply ignore this problem for such a long time ? Technical support did not help either other than giving excuse to relieve responsibility.
