I recently installed Leopard on my two computers - an older G5 PPC desktop and a new Intel iMac. I initially had a conflict between VirusBarrier anmd Time Machinne that caused Time Machine not to operate properly. On a Friday evening I sent an e-mail to tech support. On Monday morning I had an answer that solved my problem!! Now everything is working perfectly, including Time Machine.

I had problems with both Time Machine (which not only didn't work but caused other difficulties as well) and Disk Utility (which worked, but very slowly) when the VirusBarrier X5 Real-Time Scanner was enabled. I found two methods to get around this:1. Disable the Real-Time Scanner before using any application that's affected by it. In my case, they were Time Machine and Disk Utility.
2. You can also go to VirusBarrier>Preferences>Scanner. In "Trusted Zone", type in the "Disable Real-Time Scanner" space the names of any applications you don't want VirusBarrier to scan.
Actually, there is now a third and apparently even better fix. Accept the latest Intego software update for VirusBarrier X5. It's version 10.5.3.1 and it seems to have solved all my previous issues. Both Time Machine and Disk Utility operate normally once again with the Real-Time Scanner enabled, making the previous two methods unnecessary.

I have just found out that my Time Machine does not work with my Virus Barrier. What was your solution (besides just disabling it)?Reply to This
