I have been using MacJournal for three years now, and I love it. I use it primarily as - well, a journal, an electronic diary, but also for keeping track of ideas, notes, plans, and goals. It's a wonderful program; more than that, it's become an essential part of my life. I'm sure I don't use its full power, either - I've never used "Discover wiki links", for example, or audio recording.
However, am I alone in discovering version 5.0 to be exceptionally buggy? It crashes all the time. Its behaviour is unpredictable. Some features (e.g. the numbering of lists) just don't work as they should. Support is now patchy; they answer some emails and comment on some bugs, but not all, and it used to be all, by return.
My advice, if you have version 4, wait for version 5 to settle down. I wish I hadn't spent money on this upgrade.
