I agree. These days software makers tend more and more often to release what amounts to beta versions. Microsoft is no different - and neither is Apple. The latter's Leopard is still a half-baked product, so when you complain about MS please keep Apple in mind, too. MS Office 2008 for Mac is not yet perfect (and never will be, it is too bloated a programme for that), but promises a lot and I believe in the end it will deliver the same way version 2004 has (by the same token Leopard will get better and better with each subsequent update). Yes, I did experience Word sudden quits, but only with one file, which I had earlier edited using NeoOffice. So, as a resort, I opened the file with Nisus Writer, converted if from .doc to .rtf, closed it and then reopened it with Word and saved is as .doc. All problems were gone just like that. It seems to me that all too often do we blame manufacturers for our own "sins." Perhaps it was a fluke, yet Word did stop quitting unexpectedly. Yes, I did experience sounds being broken in Entourage once, but I restarted my machine and everything went back to normal, sounds and all. One should also keep in mind that MS offers--I hope I am not mistaken here--three versions, at least one of which has the Exchange server option available (it is not the Home and Student Edition though). Indeed, it is disappointing, perhaps even infuriating, to use software which is not entirely reliable, but patience pays off. And again, I have seen it so many times - people swearing at software and its manufacturer whereas the problem was at their end. I would strongly recommend MS Office for Mac, if only for compatibility's sake. And please people, stop writing about how it used to be in the good old days, about beer etc., working in lumber industry, building houses of hard drive inventors, and what not. It is plain rude to use VersionTracker for such idiocies. If you need to vent your nostalgia, go join a discussion forum. VersionTracker is about talking about software, not your military history or your favourite pastime.
