After over two hours on the phone with Canon paid ($9.99) support, I still cannot get my Canon LIDE 60 scanner to work. Tried everything including removing EVERYTHING Canon from the system and installing anew.
Canon blames Apple, Apple says that is the scanner shows up in the System Profiler (it does), then Apple's part is done. So, Apple blames Canon for lousy drivers that don't work. I'm on Apple's side, Canon support and software simply sucks.
If you are using Leopard, buy an HP or some other brand of scanner and stick it good to Canon, a most decidedly bad company when it comes to Mac support.
BTW, I have a PPC Powerbook G4 and the problem may be specific to PPC models. I've heard from reading other forums that the new software might work on Intel Macs. But it sure doesn't on PPC Macs.

LIDE 60 doesn't work with Leopard - LargeCup
What happened to you is frustrating, I know. But, HP may not be all that it can be either. Let me tell you about a problem with HP software made for their new scanner, the G4050 that I purchased a few weeks back.I have an older HP All-in-One (the 6100 series) and it worked fine with the HP software that came with it (and was updated a couple of times). It continued to work fine (printing, scanning and faxing) when I upgraded to Leopard. When I purchased the G4050 and tried to load its software I kept getting an error in the installation process, telling me I had a corrupted installation.
HP recommended I delete all of the HP software and reinstall, which I did. That didn't help at all so, frustrated, I returned the scanner. When I tried to load the older HP All-in-One software it wouldn't install because it would only run under Tiger. (As HP told me, it would run if I downgrade to Tiger, install the All-in-One software and then upgrade back to Leopard).
I could understand HP not wanting to support software for a 5-year-old product, but why didn't they warn me when they told me to uninstall the G4050 software not to uninstall the working software for the 6100? I had told him several times about having it working fine in my system.
Anyway I'm very happy with my Canon 8800F scanner. It works great with Leopard (and Time Machine saved my butt as I was able to restore my machine exactly as it was before I installed the lousy new HP software!)
Just a note of caution. Good luck.

There is a solution! I thought I would have to trash my LiDE 500f scanner, but I followed the instructions at Canon to a "T" and it worked out. If you already have the latest CanoScan software and drivers, then simply search for the old ScanGear folder and trash it-- this may solve your problem. If not, go to Canon USA's website <http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=DownloadIndexAct> identify your scanner, click on the Download & Drivers tab, select your OS, then download both the latest drivers and the latest CanoScan software (possibly 4.9.3). Download both and install. BE SURE TO TRASH YOUR OLD SCANGEAR FOLDER before you install them. This worked for me without any hitches.Reply to This
